New Orleans, Louisiana (2012) - Named for France’s 18th Century ruling family, Bourbon Street is the heart of New Orleans’ oldest neighborhood – The French Quarter. While known primarily for its bars and adult clubs, its buildings are a visual collage of history from its time as a French territory (1718-1763) then Spanish territory (1763-1803) and later as a part of the US.
I saw these cascading escape ladders during a recent visit. They were on some of the “newer” turn-of-the-20th-Century buildings on the southern end of Bourbon Street. I liked how they interplayed with the colorful residential apartments and the 100-year old Astor Hotel in the distance.
